Daily Bread

“Give us each day our daily bread.” (Luke 11:3)
“For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven, and gives life to the world. —Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life;” (John 6:33-35)

At the time of becoming a Christian at the age of 17, God birthed within me a love to read and study His word. This is still a growing love and hardly a day goes by without reading and meditating on what God has to say to us in His word. God’s word is the bread of the Father’s will for our lives and how can we know His will if we don’t love His word. My primary task as a shepherd of God’s flock is to tend and feed the sheep the green pastures of His word.

With this in mind, many years ago I began to write a ‘Thought for the Week’ for our church weekly news. These thoughts were based on what the Lord was sharing with us as a congregation of people and to encourage everyone to spend some time following up on what the Holy Spirit was saying to us. ‘Daily Bread’ is the ongoing accumulation of those thoughts. They are, as it were, ‘broken bread’ that reflect a variety of topics that we can readily feed upon and digest.

I pray that you will find these ‘daily bread thoughts’ encouraging and helpful in your walk with the Lord. May they in some small way inspire you to a greater love for His word and a desire to want to share the bread of life, Jesus Christ, with another.
